January 2022

Last year brought many changes: new schedule, new rash guards, new techniques… but I have a feeling this year will be the best yet! If you’re seeing this newsletter then you’ve found our website and hopefully you’ve familiarized yourself with it because it will house all the information we used to send home with students, allow us to update our parent contact information, keep updated schedules, house our school calendar, and even facilitate online payments! When I think back to the 15 x 20 mat space we started with, it seems unreal that we now have four kids classes, a women’s fitness class, and a Sunday community open mat for men (which is free… by they way).

Speaking of tournaments, the 2022 Varsity Calendar has been released! You can find it here, or at the studio on the announcement door.

One event of note is the Artesia High School Wrestling Club’s home meet on February 8th at 6pm. We encourage all Varsity students to attend this free community event! If you go, please wear a Varsity Academy shirt. If you don’t have one, let us know as soon as possible so we can get one to you! We will announce a meeting place closer to this event.

The calendar also includes dates for this year’s annual summer camps. Camps run Monday through Thursday from 8am to 2pm, are only $100 and include a mid-morning snack. This year, we will be capping the camps at 20 students and requiring a $50 deposit to hold registrations. I know it seems crazy far away but these camps are one of our best events of the year so don’t miss out!

Finally, our outstanding students from the final quarter of 2021. These students went above and beyond and we are incredibly proud of their accomplishments.

Our first outstanding student is Finley. Finley was unsure at first, but class after class she pushed herself past her comfort zone and trusted us to teach her safely, and now Finley often leads her peers not just with her work ethic, but her skill. She may be small, but when techniques are executed correctly Finley can prove to anyone… they work.

The second student we would like to recognize has shown immense personal development this year. At Varsity Academy we believe in progress, not perfection. A student who can be honest about their shortcomings and choose realistic steps towards becoming a better version of themselves will be unstoppable. Mason has an incredible willingness to learn and improve. I truly can’t wait to see him continue to grow and compete this year.

If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out. We could not have come this far without your trust and support. Thank you for being a part of our community!

See you on the mats
